Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge

The Missisquoi Wildlife Project opening reception and show on Saturday June 28, 2008 was a complete success! Approximately 150 -200 people came to view the beautiful photography and artwork that was provided by our member photographers and artists of The Saint Albans Artists’ Guild. Artwork and photography were sold and the proceeds will benefit both the Saint Albans Artists' Guild and the Friends of the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge in order that both organizations may continue to bring visual arts and natural beauty to our communities.

If you didn’t get the chance to attend the reception there is still plenty of time to see the exhibit, which will be ongoing until July 31, 2008.

The Guild would like to thank the Friends of the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, Steve Riley and Ann Bataille, and we would also like to thank Mark Sweeney and Dave Frisque of the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge for all of their help and participation in the project and for giving us a chance to produce this show.

We would like to extend special thanks to Dominico Spano of Mimmo’s Pizzeria Restaurant, Hannaford, Price Chopper, and the Park Café for their donations of wonderful trays of fruits, cheeses, cookies and desserts. We would also like to thank members of The Saint Albans Artists' Guild, Natalie LaRocque Bouchard, Barbara Hamm, Louise Counos for their donation trays of veggies, cheeses and sweets.

Thank you to Linda Wirts for her beautiful flower arrangement that brought beauty and life to our table and April Henderson who took photos of the event for the Guild. Many thanks go to Scott Duprey and LGPrinting LLC. for their donation of the printing of our posters.

Thank you to Paul Legassey and Elizabeth….. of Northwest Access TV channels 15 & 16 who donated time to film our event, and to Joanne Montanye for all of her patience in trying to maneuver her way around the crowds and tight spaces to get just the right shots. Thanks also go to Leon Thompson and the Saint Albans Messenger for helping us to get the word out for a worthy cause and also to the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, SAFF, Vermont Arts Council, Seven Days, Burlington Free Press and the All Arts Council and others who had listed us on their calendars.

Most of all thank you to the participating artists; Natalie LaRocque Bouchard, Karen Day-Vath, Barbara Hamm, Ann S. 2008 Gala Event

Our second Annual Gala on May 2, 2008 was a huge success! Once again the Artists, Artisans and Photographers of the Saint Albans Artists' Guild outdid themselves with the presentations of their artwork.

It was a wonderful evening! And we all had the chance to come together and enjoy each other's artistry. We also enjoyed smooth jazz by the Will Patton Ensemble and many good things to eat.

The Will Patton Ensemble
Governor Jim Douglas

We were honored by the presence of Governor Jim Douglas, noted clairvoyant and medium Nan O’Brien, Alex Aldrich, Executive Director of the Vermont Arts Council and Lisa McCormack and Rob Fitzgerald from Art’s Alive.

Barbara Hamm receives Golden Palette Award for 2008Golden Palette Award: This year was the first presentation year of the SAAG Golden Palette award, given to an individual making significant contribution to the community of art. The recipient of the 2008 Golden Palette Award was Barbara Hamm for her dedication to the arts, and for helping to bring art into the community of Saint Albans. Barbara Hamm is a member of the Saint Albans Artist Guild and is the founder of the Bishop Street Artists. Barbara is a dedicated artist and a community activist for the arts in Saint Albans and Franklin County. As a watercolorist, she has always loved to paint. She started painting in her kitchen and then invited some artist friends to join her. The group started to grow and it then moved to St. Luke’s Church Parish Hall. More artists were invited to join and the group eventually became the Bishop Street Artists. Although a small group of approximately a dozen artists, it has become a well known organization for its wonderful artwork and its cultural contribution to the community. We thank you and congratulate you Barbara for a job well done!
